In what is seen as a welcome relief amidst the raging second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic across Manipur, Ukhrul district continues to witness a declining trend in daily tally of Covid cases in the current month.

There has been a gradual decrease in the daily cases for straight eight days since the beginning of June and for the first time in two months, zero cases were reported in the district on Tuesday.

Altogether 22 persons were screened at the district's Screening Centre at UDH on Tuesday and none of the results emerged positive, said a DSO source.

For the district, the current month has so far marked a considerable drop in the daily positivity rate, with June 1 recording five cases, against 21 cases detected on the previous day, May 31.

Continuing the trend, only three cases each were reported on June 2 and 3, followed by four cases on June 4. Though 12 cases were detected on June 5, it was followed by one case the next day.

On June 7, only two cases were detected out of 131 persons screened -- 74 at UDH Screening centre and 54 at containment zones, the source said.

The district's tally of active cases now stands at 56, after 10 patients were discharged on Tuesday, it said.

The total number of cumulative positive cases till date is 416, including 10 cases referred out of the district. The district has so far reported 16 fatalities due to the infectious disease.

Of the current cases, 34 patients are being lodged at Transit Camp CCC, 16 at UDH Isolation Ward, three at Tongou CIC, two at Leisan CIC and one at Jessami CIC respectively.
