Nevis group helps 1200 poor families with relief package

Unlike the previous year,  this year's second wave of Covid-19 pandemic is affecting more and more people who are being left in a state of abject poverty or economic vulnerability. 

With the extended lockdown and shrinking means of livelihoods amid mounting positivity, the pandemic situation has proved to be a double whammy for a large section of the district's impoverished populace.

In a bid to mitigate the hardships to fight the pandemic outbreak, a Mumbai-based Nevis Trading & Investment Consultants (NT&IC) Pvt. Ltd. has extended a relief package for as many as 1200 families from among the poor and marginalised populace in the district headquarters township.

The initiative of the NT&IC Pvt. Ltd. to distribute the essential commodities to the poor beneficiaries from the Tangkhul community was facilitated by Ukhrul ADC Caretaker Chairman Dr Yaronsho Ngalung.

Dr Ngalung organised a simple distribution function at the premises of his Phungreitang official quarter in Ukhrul town recently.

"This is a goodwill gesture shown by the couple Joshua and Yuimiwon Nevis, who are the founders of Nevis company and we are extremely grateful to them," he acknowledged.

According to Dr Ngalung, he was known to the couple Joshua and his wife Yuimiwon, who is a Tangkhul yorla only recently.

"It is amazing that they have such genuine concern for the Tangkhul people. Pleasantly surprised, I gladly accepted their offer when they approached me to aid them in handing out the relief package for our poor people," he said, terming the act as a genuine service to humanity.

Subsequently, he tied up with the village authorities of Hungpung and Hunphun villages and other committees of different localities in the township to make a list of the poorest households in their respective areas.

"This is how the list of 1200 families has been prepared to include the poorest of the poor," Dr Ngalung said, adding that the items included 5 kg of rice, and 1 kg each of dal, sugar, onion, salt, and cooking oil for each of the household beneficiary.

He, nevertheless, said that owing to the current safety protocols, none of the beneficiaries could be called in to receive the items there. 

Instead, he invited the village headmen and local committee representatives to receive the relief items during the distribution function which was held in strict compliance with the SOPs.

The relief materials were handed over to Hungpung headman Wungayung Peter, AHTA Chairman Chonmi Raleng, and other public leaders on behalf of the beneficiaries.

Former ADC members Edmund Chiphang and HA Vareshang Ukhrul NPF leader Asem, NPF Chingai president Ashang and others also attended the event.

In a message, Joshua and Yuimiwon conveyed that they were glad to extend their love and support to the Tangkhul Naga Community through the help of Dr. Yaronsho Ngalung, Caretaker Chairman, ADC, Ukhrul, Manipur in these challenging times with this package for 1200 families. 

"We pray that may the grace and mercy of God be upon each and every family members at all times. Our God is a good father and we truly believe that He is taking care of the situation. God bless you and your family!," they said.
